A group of global software company BMC Software employees swapped out the CBD’s hustle and bustle for the sea breezes and sandy beaches of Hobsons Bay earlier this week.

Hailing from Hobsons Bay and armed with gloves, garbage bags and reachers, the group of eight BMC Software staff members spent Monday, January 16 travelling from Williamstown Beach, via Nelson Place and further down The Strand through Newport and Spotswood before finishing the day at the West Gate Bridge, cleaning up beaches and park areas along the way.

BMC Software Australia regional marketing manager Susan Rudolph said the initiative was part of BMC Software’s International Service, which coincided with Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“We are kicking off the year with International Day of Service on January 16, celebrating BMC’s culture of giving to those in need and honouring the legacy of service represented by Martin Luther King, Jr,” she said.

“All employees globally are provided dedicated time to step away on January 16 from daily work activities to volunteer in our communities.

“By having this volunteer day off, BMC employees together can make a significant impact with over 50,000 hours of service around the world.”

Company employees around the globe volunteered their time in their local communities, either via charity work or cleaning the environment or other ways of giving back to the community.

BMC Software has also delivered a number of other social responsibility initiatives, including planting trees for new software developments for its customers and recycling equipment, waste products and redundant items.
