Lots of laughs as comedy festival hits Footscray

Comedy festival favourites will be looking for laughs in Footscray this Saturday as part of Comedy Westside.

Hosted by Geraldine Quinn at the Saigon Welcome Arch from 1.30pm, The (Very) Big Laugh Out West will feature festival family favourites Tessa Waters, Jacques The French Waiter, Lisa Lottie and Alex The Magician.

It will be the first visit to the west by The (Very) Big Laugh Out, a taster of fun Melbourne International Comedy Festival highlights.

Festival executive director Damien Hodgkinson said the festival’s presence in Maribyrnong had grown in the past three years.

“We’re delighted to … expand our programming into the west and bring some of our best shows to a wonderfully creative and diverse audience that has a strong appreciation for the arts,” he said.

Maribyrnong mayor Catherine Cumming said the council was excited to be a part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the fourth year running.

“Our city is home to an incredibly creative community with many talented, inspiring people bringing arts and culture to our city,” she said.

“We encourage local residents and visitors to check out the program and come down for some local laughs.”
