A 40-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into the disturbance of two graves in Footscray in late January.

Police executed a warrant in Mary Street, Spotswood on March 25 and arrested the man who has now been charged with six offences including two counts of removal of body parts from the corpse of a human being, exhuming or removal of human remains from place of interment and criminal damage.

Police allegedly recovered what is believed to be the stolen partial human remains at the address.

It is alleged partial human remains were stolen from mausoleums in two separate incidents at the Geelong Road cemetery between Thursday January 27 and Tuesday February 1.

The man will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on August 17.
