A man has died following a house fire in Maidstone during the early hours of Tuesday, October 4.
A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said FRV crews responded to an incident at a Baird Street property just before 3.15am following a number of calls to triple-0 reporting a house fire, where arriving crews found a single-storey house ablaze.
“Wearing Breathing Apparatus (BA) crews worked to clear the home and fight the flames for 50 minutes to make the scene safe,” the spokesperson said.
“The home has been extensively damaged.
“FRV firefighters remained on scene this morning to continue to extinguish the fire and undertake fire duties.”
Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said a man who was pulled unresponsive from the fire died at the scene.
“A crime scene has been established and detectives from Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit are attending the scene,” she said.
“It is expected an arson chemist and fire investigators will attend the property this morning.”
