A house fire in Maribyrnong which broke out late on Tuesday morning, has been brought under control.
Crews arrived at the Cumberland Drive address about 11.35am on September 3 after reports of thick smoke coming from the three storey unit.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters worked to gain access into the house to extinguish the fire on the second floor, bringing the blaze under control by 12.30pm.
Neither the home nor the properties on either side were occupied at the time of the fire which, while contained to the second floor, caused significant smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.
Neighbouring properties will be assessed for fire or smoke damage.
The cause of the fire is being investigated and crews are expected to remain at the scene for some time to ensure it is fully extinguished.
