Westgate Divisional Response Unit officers have arrested and charged a 36-year-old Maribyrnong man on alleged drug offences in relation to the trafficking of a commercial quantity of 1.4 Butanediol, a chemical which is sometimes used in supplements as a substitute for illegal substances such as gamma butyrolactone [GBL] and gamma hydroxybutyrate [GHB].
A Victoria Police spokesperson said police arrested a 36-year-old Maribyrnong man following an alleged seizure at a Maribyrnong address on Tuesday, August 30 and charged him with two counts of trafficking a commercial quantity of 1.4 Butanediol, committing an indictable offence whilst on bail, possessing a prohibited weapon without an exemption and other drug offences.
“A warrant was executed at an address on Primary Place on August 30 where 25 litres of 1.4 Butanediol was seized,” the spokesperson said.
“Earlier in the month, police were called to a business on Williamstown Road in Maidstone after reports a suspect package addressed to someone else had been delivered there.
“The package is alleged to have contained bottles of 1.4 Butanediol.”
Police seized a total of 35 litres, which has an estimated street value of more than $100,000.
Police have remanded the man ahead of him facing the Melbourne Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, August 31).
