A Maribyrnong local ran more than 70 kilometres in a single day to raise money for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September.

Jaz Obradovic went the distance on Thursday, September 22 in eight hours and 16 minutes as a part of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s [PCFA] Long Run campaign.

The Long Run encouraged people to run, walk or ride 72 kilometres throughout September to raise awareness and funds for the 66 Australian men diagnosed with prostate cancer every day.

Mr Obradovic chose to complete the feat in one go.

“Honestly, it was the most difficult challenge I have ever done in my entire life, but every time I felt fatigued, I thought about prostate cancer and how every step helps save lives,” he said.

“This motivated me right until the finish line.”

Mr Obradovic has raised more than $1600 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia to date.

More than 24,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year and about 3500 men die from the disease each year in Australia.

PCFA chief executive Anne Savage commended Mr Obradovic on his efforts.

“This September through The Long Run, thousands of Australians like Jaz have helped raise over $1.2 million for vital research, awareness and support services,” she said.

Donations are still open for Mr Obradovic’s campaign.
