Inner-west residents are invited to a public forum next week on flood mitigation efforts in the Maribyrnong River catchment area.

Hosted by Melbourne Water, the forum on Wednesday, April 2 is part of the Maribyrnong River catchment flood mitigation study set up to avoid a repeat of the October 2022 Maribyrnong River floods.

Attendees will be able to share insights and experience on the 2022 floods as well as provide feedback as part of the study’s community engagement process.

Members of the study project team will also be on hand to answer questions and discuss flood mitigation efforts in the Maribyrnong River catchment area.

“We know that the Maribyrnong River flood in October 2022 was a traumatic experience for this community,” said Melbourne Water executive general manager, Craig Dixon.

“We also know that there are lasting impacts of the flood, financially, socially, emotionally and physically.

“Melbourne Water is actively listening to your feedback.”

The forum will be held at the Maribyrnong Community Centre, 9 Randall Street, Maribyrnong from 7pm to 8.15pm.

Registration for the forum will be open from 6.45pm to 7pm, while experts from the study project team will be available for discussion from 8.15pm to 8.45pm.

For those who can’t attend the event in-person, a recording of the event will be made available at: letstalk.melbournewater.com.au/maribyrnong-river-flood-model/flood-mitigation-study
