Men charged over stabbing in Altona North

Two men have been charged over an alleged stabbing at a sporting venue in Altona North last month.

Police said the incident occurred at a basketball tournament held at the Dohertys Road venue, just after 8.30pm on Sunday, November 28.

A 22-year-old Werribee man sustained stab wounds to his upper body and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A second man, also aged 22 and from Werribee, was treated on the scene by paramedics.

Search warrants were executed in North Melbourne and Greenvale on Friday December 10, and two men were arrested.

A 20-year-old North Melbourne man was charged with a series of offences, including intentionally causing injury and possession of a controlled weapon.

A 20-year-old Greenvale man was charged with common law assault and recklessly causing injury.

Both men have been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on May 9, 2022.
