Metro podcast debut

Metro Trains Melbourne has partnered with Storytowns Podcast Tours and the Department of Transport to create a series of train focussed podcasts.

Train users will be able to listen to the podcasts trough the Storytowns app, there will be 47 podcasts available focusing on five of the metropolitan train lines including the Williamstown line.

The use of geo-located podcasts along the city’s train lines will play automatically as train users approach a landmark or point of interest across Melbourne’s train network.

The Williamstown podcast features discussions from the Newport Railway Museum’s secretary John Hawthorn.

“On the podcast I speak about a few history items about the museum,” he said.

“It will give the listeners some understanding of what we have in the museum and what our key attractions are.”

John said the podcast will also feature some general information and history.

“The whole idea of the podcasts are to let the people who are travelling along the railway line understand the local gems which sit along the railway line.

“It will let people know what sights are essentially in their backyard. People might live locally and take the train everyday but they might not realise that we have this museum.”

The series covers a variety of themes, including local food, culture, street art, travel tips, fun facts, and interesting stories about various suburbs’ history, culture and train stations.

Storytowns founder Jarrod Pickford said, “We believe that every suburb has a story to tell, and we’re excited to bring Melbourne’s unique character and history to life through the voices of its people.”

The Storytowns app is available for download at www.storytowns.com.au/metro
