There will be plenty of colour and entertainment as the Midsumma Festival hits Melbourne’s west later this month.

Midsumma is Victoria’s premier queer arts and cultural organisation, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.

Following the success of recent years, local councils, including Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay councils, have supported the festival, which kicks off on Saturday, January 21.

Among the events, Maribyrnong council is hosting an evening of multi-disciplinary performance art by creatives with roots in the western suburbs, along with an author talk and Hobsons Bay council is encouraging residents of the west to be part of a rainbow installation, while there is also an outdoor exhibition space set to arrive in Laverton.

Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre is hosting a multi-media exhibition, while there will be a queer history walk in Footscray.

Lucy Best will perform at the Bowery Theatre in St Albans, while Brimbank council and Bulldog Pride will host a pool party in Sunshine.

In Wyndham, the Park Lounge returns to Kelly Park, while The Substation in Newport will host the Queen on Country by Peter Waples-Crowe and there is a Pier Festival in Williamstown.
