An extra 40 childcare places will be created when Maribyrnong River Children’s Centre’s million-dollar overhaul is completed early next year.
The refurbishment will include reconstruction of the entire Wests Road centre, along with new toilets, a refurbished carpark and a second maternal and child health room.
The project is being jointly funded by Maribyrnong council ($650,000) and the state government ($350,000).
Temporary buildings will be used to help meet the challenge of keeping the centre operating during construction.
Maribyrnong mayor Nam Quach says the redevelopment of Maribyrnong River Children’s Centre will provide improved maternal and child health services for Maribyrnong families.
“With increasing numbers of young families in Maribyrnong, refurbishment of the centre will create additional places where demand for childcare is highest,” he said.
“This new state-of-the-art children’s centre will meet the health and learning needs of our youngest community members and their families.”
