A campaign to save a historic pier on the Mornington Peninsula has arrived in Williamstown.
Flinders Pier is at the centre of the campaign, which has currently fallen into disrepair and is considered a safety hazard.
The Save Flinders Pier campaign trailer, the ‘Weedy Trailer’, has been paraded along Ferguson Street, Douglas Parade and Nelson Place in Williamstown, and has been spotted situated outside of Williamstown MP and Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne.
Flinders Community Association spokesman Charles Reis said the fate of the pier, built in 1864, is in the hands of Ms Horne who can save the pier “with the stroke of a pen.”
“While we have applied for Heritage Listing, the outcome is not guaranteed.”
An online petition to save the pier reached 40,000 signatures last week.
