Motorcyclist killed in Footscray

A motorcyclist has died after slamming into a pole in Footscray on Friday afternoon.

Police and emergency services remain at the scene of the fatal crash on Ballarat Road.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established, however it is believed the man, believed to be in his 40s, lost control on tram tracks and struck a pole shortly before 4pm.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, however he died at the scene.

Ballarat Road was closed in both directions between Droop Street and Gordon Street but reopened shortly after 7pm.
