Western suburbs Liberal MP Bernie Finn last week told State Parliament he was concerned Williamstown would be “ruined by a sky rail” as part of plans to remove the Ferguson Street level crossing.
Mr Finn asked that Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan attend a public meeting with Williamstown constituents to discuss concerns about sky rail.
“It seems to me that this is an issue that does impact a huge number of people in the Williamstown area,” Mr Finn said.
“The people of Williamstown are seeing what is happening on the Caulfield line and some of the areas Carnegie way … and they do not want to see that happen in Williamstown.”
Williamstown MP Wade Noonan said it was premature to be discussing design options.
“The Ferguson Street crossing removal is not due to be completed until 2022,” he said.
“As such, detailed design work to determine a preferred crossing removal option is not expected to commence any earlier than 2019.
“Community consultation will be a critical part of the project’s process for selecting a design.”
Hobsons Bay council this month announced 12 people had been selected for a Ferguson Street Level Crossing Interest Group to represent the community and advise the council.
