Nashville meets Yarraville in new country album

Yarraville country music duo The Long and Short of It, Patsy Toop OAM and David Baird, have an unspoken language that they have developed over the past 15 years together, which has helped create their new album ‘Midnight Choir’.

Released on Friday, August 5, Ms Toop said the album had already been received “really well” within the country music scene.

The pair worked on the album with Nashville-based producer Kenny Royster, who is renowned for his work with US country star Luke Combs.

Ms Toop said working with Mr Royster on their vocals, which were recorded in Yarraville and integrating them with the music, which was recorded in Nashville, helped showcase the maturity within their writing.

“He’s quite an amazing vocal coach,” she said.

“I think he’s taken our vocal abilities to another level.”

Mrs Toop said the pair met at the Pirates Tavern bar in Williamstown and she decided to perform with Mr Baird after hearing him sing.

“We thought our voices would be very complementary,” she said.

“It’s been an amazing partnership.”

“Our skills have grown dramatically,” Mr Baird said.

Mr Baird said the album featured a wide range of tunes.

“The album has something for everyone from traditional country tunes to beer drinking songs,” he said.

“We think it’s our best work yet.”

The pair have started planning for a national tour later in the year.
