Newport train station users will soon have more accessibility options for getting on and off the train network safely, with works set to be funded using a share of a $57.7 million funding package for accessibility works at train stations in the 2022-23 state budget.
Williamstown MP Melissa Horne and Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll visited the site on Monday, August 29 to announce works will get under way later this year.
The state government will consult a range of key stakeholders about a number of potential options for works at the site to make sure the proposed solutions meet the needs of all Newport station users.
Ms Horne said the state government are looking forward to work with Newport and nearby residents on the proposal.
“This is another step towards a more accessible train network for residents in the western suburbs, and we look forward to working closely with the community to ensure the upgrades meet the needs of locals and visitors for years to come,” she said.
Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said the aim of the works is to ensure all network users can travel confidently, comfortably and safely.
“We’re improving accessibility across the entire transport network,” he said.
“We know there is more work that needs to be done, which is why we are continuing to work with operators, community groups and locals to help make our transport network better for everyone.”
