New care centre open in Maribyrnong

The State Government has opened one of its newest Priority Primary Care Centres [PPCCs] in Maribyrnong.

Opened earlier this week and located near the Footscray Hospital, the Maribyrnong PPCC would be open afternoons and evenings, helping to ease pressure on emergency departments and provide people with after-hours care during periods when people struggle to find a last-minute GP appointment.

The opening of the Maribyrnong centre joined the opening of a PPCC in Forest Hill earlier this week, with additional centres open in Werribee, Craigieburn, Geelong and Warragul.

The centres would accept bookings and walk-ins, with doctors and nurses on site to treat a variety of conditions, including fractures and burns, as well as delivering diagnostic services such as pathology and medical imaging.

The delivery of the PPCC was part of the State Government’s $70 million investment.

Footscray MP Katie Hall said the new centre would deliver a suite of benefits to local residents.

“The new PPCC in Footscray will provide huge relief to our emergency departments and free up critical resources for those who need it most while giving locals another option for non-emergency care,” she said.

The Maribyrnong PPCC is located on 31 Edgewater Boulevard in Maribyrnong from 1pm to 9pm seven days a week.
