New chair for VicHealth

VicHealth board member Ian Hamm has been named the new chair of the organisation, replacing former federal Health Minister and longtime Gellibrand MP, Nicola Roxon in the role.

Mr Hamm joined the VicHealth Board in October 2021 and has decades of leadership experience across government, sport administration and the community sector.

A proud Yorta Yorta man, and member of the Stolen Generations, Mr Hamm has also worked to advance reconciliation and ensure Aboriginal voices are represented at every level of decision-making, including on boards and in senior governance roles.

“It’s a privilege to serve as chair of VicHealth,” Mr Hamm said following his appointment.

“VicHealth plays a vital role in supporting Victorians to live healthier, more connected lives and I look forward to building on that legacy.

“Health isn’t just physical, it’s social, emotional, cultural, economic and environmental, ” he added. “A truly healthy Victoria is one where everyone belongs and can thrive, regardless of who they are or where they come from.”

Outgoing chair, Ms Roxon, paid tribute to VicHealth’s progress and welcomed the new leadership.

“It has been terrific to serve as Chair of VicHealth for the last 5 years,” Ms Roxon said.

It’s an organisation that is ambitious about the positive impact it can have in the community and innovative in the ways it tries to achieve that impact.

“I’m proud of VicHealth’s work listening to young people, strengthening community partnerships, advancing equity, and taking meaningful steps to support healthier, more connected communities across the state.”
