A creative technology library designed to engage youth and increase digital literacy for older adults is now open in Williamston.
The Creative Technology Hub at Seaworks was officially opened on March 10, following a $115,000 grant from the state government’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
Local Government Minister Shaun Leane and Williamstown MP Melissa Horne opened the hands-on, interactive community hub, which will offer access to new and emerging technologies.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics will be the focus of the programs on offer, with an industrial grade 3D printer, laser cutter, 3D scanner, green screen kit and virtual
reality headsets available to use.
Library members will also be able to borrow robotic kits to program at home and improve their coding skills.
Minister Leane said libraries are increasingly changing, and they are now becoming places where you can access state-of-the-art technology.
“We’re investing in delivering state-of-the-art libraries right across our suburbs so they can always be a place where people can come to meet, connect and create,” he said.
Ms Horne the new hub is an asset to the community and “is making learning fun by engaging people and giving them the opportunity to learn valuable digital literacy skills.”
