Footscray West Primary School principal Brendan Millar is pleased for work to commence on the new gym.
The school received $9.3 million in the state budget to revamp some of the schools facilities, including a new gym which Mr Millar said has been needing work for years.
“When I started in 2015 it was clear the gym was not adequate for our students, so we have been advocating for the funding for some time,” he said.
“We were aware we were getting the funding , these works have been in talks for some time.”
Mr Millar said Footscray MP Katie Hall is to thank for helping them get to where they are today.
“Katie Hall has done a great job advocating for schools in our sector and especially for our school.,” he said.
“We knew the budget would be tight so we are pleased to have gotten the funding.”
Mr Millar is unsure of when the construction will begin because of the scale of the project.
“We are a fully built school so there is no room to just build a new gym, that means we have to knock down the old one and cause disruptions for the kids.”
