The Brooklyn Tennis Club has received and installed new nets and posts at their facilities, thanks to a grant from the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.

The club received $4000 and was among 28 recipients of grants of up to $100,000 for festivals, events and upgrades to community, sporting and recreational facilities run by not-for-profit community groups and organisations to benefit the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong areas.

Brooklyn Tennis Club President Ronaldo San Andres said the club’s members were “very grateful” for the grant.

“Nets and net posts are essential elements of the courts and need to be in excellent condition for the club to maintain our tennis activities and projects,” he said.

Williamstown MP and Suburban Development Minister Melissa Horne said the new facilities at the club would allow for tennis players of all ages to continue their practice with updated equipment.

“Through the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund, we’re making sure communities in the inner west benefit from the West Gate Tunnel Project sooner rather than later,” she said.

“Sport plays an important role in the community, and we’re proud to be able to help organisations like the Brooklyn Tennis Club upgrade their facilities.”

Successful applicants for the next round of grants are expected to be announced in the coming months.
