New vision for Seabrook and Altona Meadows

There are only a few days left for residents to have their say on the draft vision and principles for our Better Places Seabrook and Altona Meadows program.

The community response to this project has been absolutely incredible.

The draft vision was put together after receiving 3610 pieces of feedback in the first stage of consultation – easily the biggest response we’ve had across all the Better Places programs so far.

It means our residents are engaged and as passionate as I am about making Seabrook and Altona Meadows an even better place to live, work, learn and play.

The first stage of consultation identified three themes that are now the heart of this plan: pride of place and local identity, bringing the community closer together, and creating a place that is easier and safer to move around.

This second stage of community consultation closes this Saturday, October 15, so I’d love anyone who hasn’t already done so to visit participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/bpsam and have their say on the vision.

I’m so proud of how inclusive this plan is of all people.

A highlight is the Western Aquatic and Early Years Centre proposed for Bruce Comben Reserve in Altona Meadows, which will have a strong focus on providing for people with a disability, specifically catering for people with autism.

I want to thank all those residents that have provided their feedback so far.

You’re making a really valuable contribution to the future of our area.

I also want to honour the work of Friends of Skeleton Creek and Altona Bay Wetlands for all their work over the last 30 years.

Their dedication to continually improving our neighbourhood is inspiring.

A quick reminder also that the Civic Spaces Showcase wraps up this Saturday.

The refurbished Civic Centre in Altona is a great community asset that you can use.

Check out the free events and book in for a tour of the building by visiting hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/showcase.

The showcase continues our mission of bringing council and the community closer together, which is what all our Council+ centres do.

You can do any of your council-related business at our Council+ centres and, of course, use our traditional library services while you are there too.

You can always get in touch with me at dgrima@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.
