Newport Lakes Primary School has been allocated $3 million in the state budget to upgrade its ageing buildings.
Education Minister James Merlino on Monday announced the funding to modernise and upgrade school buildings.
“Better facilities will mean better outcomes for students at Newport Lakes Primary School,” he said.
“We’re making Victoria the education state, where every child has access to a great education and can achieve their potential.
“I thank member for Williamstown, Wade Noonan for his strong advocacy for this project.”
Principal David Moss said it was fantastic news for the school.
“The school needs a refurbishment or an upgrade,” he said.
“Wade’s been just brilliant in advocating for the school, working for the school over a long period of time.
“It’s a school that’s in need of repairs. We do fantastic work within the classroom; it would be nice to get the sort of buildings that adapt to 21st century education.
“There are some original old buildings, there are some that date back from the 1880s.
“There’s one that’s 1920s,” Mr Moss said. “But they’ll be hopefully the ones that we can keep, and we can replace the old, what they called LTC buildings, that were built, I think, in the 70s.”
