South Kingsville resident Dominique Hes needs the communities input to help write her book which tells the story of Newport Lakes.

“I am writing a book about the lake and its history, I thought it would be great to talk about how the community has worked together to bring it to life,” said Dominique.

“We first moved to the area for the lake and during covid I saw how precious it became to everyone, this is a way to acknowledge that.”

Dominque is looking for Hobsons Bay locals to share their experiences with the lake, by filling out a survey or getting in touch with her.

“I am looking for stories people might have , anything that they associate with the lake,” she said.

“They can also fill out my survey on how much time people spent at the lake during covid.”

More than 70 people have already responded to Dominique’s survey, revealing that people had doubled the amount of time they were spent at the lake during lock downs.

“I would love for more people to fill that survey out to let us know how much they valued the lake during that time,” she said.

“We would also love to see any photos that people have and would be happy to share.”

Dominique said this is her last push for some more responses, as she hopes to have all of the data collated by the end of November.

“My intention is to spend the summer writing. I will spend the next four or five months writing and launch it at the next bush festival in May 2024.

“This will also be ready for the 40 year anniversary for the first friends group starting up.”
