Newport teen nabbed behind wheel of allegedly stolen Ferrari

An alleged car thief with a taste for luxury cars has been caught red-handed in a stolen Ferrari in Newport.

The 19-year-old Newport man was arrested near his Johnston Street home about 10am Sunday morning, after police located him behind the wheel of a blue 1994 Ferrari stolen from Toorak.

Detectives from Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit executed a warrant at the Johnston Street property on Sunday afternoon.

Police seized a number of vehicles including a 2018 Mercedes Benz, Holden utility and a motorcycle.

The vehicles are alleged to have been stolen from Toorak and Minto (NSW) between September 2 and 15.

The Newport man was arrested at the scene and has been charged with three counts of theft of motor vehicle, one count of handle stolen goods and one count of commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He has been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The investigation remains ongoing.
