Nine arrested following burglaries and motor vehicle thefts in northern and western suburbs

Nine people have been arrested as part of an investigation into burglaries and motor vehicle thefts in the northern and western suburbs.

The seven alleged burglaries occurred at commercial premises between July 28 and August 22.

Police from the Hume Crime Investigation unit arrested a Broadmeadows man, 37, on August 24 after he abandoned an allegedly stolen vehicle on the Hume Highway in Craigieburn and fled on foot.

He was interviewed and charged with 18 offences including theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, possessing a drug of dependence, conduct endangering serious injury and dangerous driving while being pursued by police.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Heidelberg magistrates court on September 7.

Three men were arrested on August 27  at a carwash in Bell Street, Preston, after they rammed two police cars.

Police were attempting to intercept a vehicle, which was displaying allegedly stolen registration plates, about 11am.

A 21-year-old Wallan man, a 22-year-old Glenroy man and a 17-year-old Roxburgh Park boy were arrested at the scene.

The Wallan man was charged with 28 offences including intentionally ramming police vehicles, burglary and theft of and theft from motor vehicle.

The Glenroy man was charged with 38 offences including recklessly ramming a police vehicle, burglary, theft of and theft from motor vehicle and conduct endangering serious injury.

Both men were remanded in custody to appear at Melbourne magistrates court today.

The teenager was released and is expected to be charged on summons with handling stolen goods and drug possession offences.

Investigators executed six search warrants at addresses in Maribyrnong, Roxburgh Park, Broadmeadows, Coburg, Craigieburn and Brunswick West overnight and arrested five more people.

A 27-year-old Coburg North man was charged with offences relating to cultivating and possessing cannabis.

A 28-year-old Coburg North woman was charged with offences relating to cultivating and possessing cannabis.

Both were bailed to appear at Broadmeadows magistrates court on October 24.

A 34-year-old Maribyrnong man was charged with possessing a drug of dependence.

He was bailed to appear at Heidelberg magistrates court on December 3.

A 21-year-old Craigieburn man was charged with theft from motor vehicle and resisting police.

He was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates court on November 21.

A 15-year-old Broadmeadows female was arrested and released. She is expected to be charged on summons in relation to theft of motor vehicle and other theft related offences.
