Nine arrested in Maribyrnong

Police have arrested nine people and seized a number of firearms during a two-day blitz of the inner west.

Detectives from the Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit had been investigating a number of separate properties in the area in relation to drug trafficking.

On Wednesday, October 18, they searched a property in West Footscray and located a firearm, three imitation firearms, methylamphetamine, 1,4-Butanediol, cannabis and allegedly stolen goods.

Two women, aged 36 and 25, and a 42-year-old man were arrested and later charged with a range of offences including possessing firearms and drugs.

The next day, officers attended another property in West Footscray with a passive alert detection dog and found cannabis and an allegedly stolen bike.

A 55-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a drug of dependence and dealing with the proceeds of crime, a 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft and breaching bail, and a 31-year-old man was charged and remanded after being wanted for outstanding theft, assault and burglary offences.

A 36-year-old woman was then arrested after police searched another West Footscray property. She was wanted on an outstanding warrant for traffic-related offences.

A fourth warrant in Maidstone then led to the arrest of two women wanted for outstanding offences.

A 39-year-old was charged with possessing a firearm and drugs, while a 37-year-old was charged and remanded for assault-related offences.

Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit detective sergeant Stacey Dwyer said, “We’re committed to removing harmful drugs and weapons from the streets so encourage anyone with information to report it to police.”
