It’s nothing to crow about for roosters in Hobsons Bay.
Roosters will be banned under a proposed shake-up of community local laws.
However, Hobsons Bay corporate services director David Anderson said rooster owners shouldn’t panic.
Owners can apply for a permit provided they can show their feathered friend will not be a nuisance.
“I think in fairness to roosters and their owners we would not be too rigorous in seeking the death penalty,” Mr Anderson said.
Last year, the council received 18 complaints related to crowing cocks.
They were dealt with under regulations dealing with noise complaints.
The new local laws are out for public consultation.
The council is expected to vote on the reforms at its August 25 meeting.
