Hobsons Bay will be served German culture by the stein full this Sunday when the annual Williamstown Community Oktoberfest takes place.
Held at Hobsons Bay Yacht Club (HBYC), the Williamstown Oktoberfest is modeled on the world famous beer festival that takes place in Munich every year from mid- or late-September to early October and attracts millions of tourists from across the globe.
Along with the obligatory steins full of pilsner, HBYC events coordinator Grace Foa said Hobsons Bay version would feature all aspects of German culture.
“There will be pretzels, lederhosen, and kranskys galore,” said Ms Foa, adding that the yacht club provided the ideal setting.
“With the best views in Melbourne, it will be a beautiful day for the community to come together and farewell the winter, whilst celebrating the approach of summer.”
While Oktoberfest, both the Munich original and the thousands of imitation events around the world, are renowned for their industrial scale consumption of beer, Ms Foa said the Williamstown event was about much more than just drinking.
“Families are very welcome, with plenty of activities to keep the kids occupied,” she said.
Even non-beer drinkers are catered for with plenty of German wine and champagne on offer, along with food and live music.
Festivities kick off at 12.30pm on October 13 and run through to 6.30pm.
Tickets are available until sold out.
