Footscray’s food lovers are encouraged to download a new app which rewards people for checking out the region’s cafes, bars and restaurants.

Launched on Saturday, September 22 at Harry & Larry’s Twilight Street Market, the Victoria University [VU] Hive Lab app allows users to earn points, rewards and badges, encouraging people to try new places and return to businesses to build up points.

The app is another result of the ongoing collaboration between VU in the Community and Maribyrnong council.

Maribyrnong mayor Anthony Tran said food enthusiasts are encouraged to support local businesses via the app.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have so many delicious options when it comes to food in Melbourne’s inner west,” he said.

“Footscray Foodie will put our diverse eateries at your fingertips.”

VU vice-chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said the app is another example of how VU is bringing the community together.

“Footscray is a food-lovers heaven, and this app makes it all deliciously visible,” he said.

“It is an absolute winner for everyone.

“We are so pleased that our partnership with Maribyrnong City Council has produced this wonderful app.”

The Hive Lab is the team behind the award-winning VU App, which won seven awards for digital design, innovation and entrepreneurship since launching in 2018, including Australia’s highest honour for design and innovation at the 2019 peak industry Good Design Awards.

Victoria University and Maribyrnong City Council have been working in partnership to enrich the local community and make Footscray a vibrant town for almost 10 years .
