Opportunistic thieves warning

Victoria Police and Neighbourhood Watch Victoria are warning the community to be on the look out for opportunistic thieves.

Police are reminding residents that half of all thefts from motor vehicles reported to them show no signs of forced entry and around 80 per cent of aggravated burglaries involve offenders entering through unlocked doors or windows and that many give up when they realise the home is secure.

With this in mind, police say residents should develop the following habits to help protect their homes and vehicles: always lock doors and windows at night; never leave cars unlocked – even in a driveway; don’t leave valuables in a cars or at least hide them out of site and never store house keys or garage door openers in cars.
