People living with Parkinson’s disease or caring for those with the disease are encouraged to take advantage of an upcoming ‘activity fair’ event.
The annual ParKanDo activity fair will be held online and at the Newport Community Hub on Tuesday, May 31 from 10.30am.
Speakers will include representatives from Victoria University’s Master Movers strength and balance program, NeuroRehab Allied Health Network (NRAH), the Dance for Wellbeing program and Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS).
The event will also include information booths about the range of services available for people living with Parkinson’s disease or other chronic illnesses, including ParkinSong Williamstown and a Melton support group.
Brooklyn’s Pam West co-founded the organisation in 2020, which was initially aimed at Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Brimbank residents but has since reached out to participants in Canberra and Queensland through Zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said that the speakers will each present for about five minutes.
“It’s a little bit like speed dating,” Ms West said.
“People who feel overwhelmed…have an opportunity to anonymously see and hear about the activities.”
Ms West thanked the Hobsons Bay council for their support for the program.
