Maribyrnong council will be ringing in 2023 at Footscray Park.
For the first time since 2019, the council’s celebrations will be held in-person.
Residents are encouraged to congregate on Footscray Park’s Eastern Lawn to watch the sun go down and a fireworks display at 9.30pm.
The night will begin with a welcome to country, followed by a performance from the Murrundaya Yepengna Dancers, directed by Amos Roach.
Global superstar Bluey and his sister Bingo will also be visiting Footscray Park as part of a live interactive experience.
Melbourne nine-piece soul and funk outfit The Bamboos will then be hitting the stage, followed by 90s rock band Jebediah and Queen tribute show Queen Forever.
Roving bubble-maker Dr Hubble will also be delighting young audiences throughout the evening, while Ryn Hooligan’s Interdimensional Creatures will also be wowing children.
Maribyrnong mayor Sarah Carter said the council is “thrilled” to host New Year’s Eve celebrations once again.
“After two years of cancellations due to COVID, there will be a familiar sense of coming home for those who have celebrated this event at Footscray Park in previous years,” she said.
I invite you and your family to join us this New Year’s Eve to toast the end of 2022 and ring in 2023 with delicious food, great entertainment, and a spectacular fireworks show.”
Visitors are advised as it is a single-use plastic free event, attendees should bring a refillable bottle to make use of the drinking water provided on site, and the community is urged to bring re-useable containers to reduce the impact on the environment.
The council is also recommending to leave any pets at home.
While the event is alcohol free, the council is encouraging visitors to use public transport, with a free shuttle bus service running between Footscray station and Footscray Park and accessible parking available on site via Maribyrnong Boulevard.
