Pet dog rescued from Footscray bonsai nursery fire

A pet German Shepherd has had a lucky escape from a fire that tore through the Sweet Grass Bonsai Nursery Cafe in Footscray on Monday night.

Firefighters responding to several calls to triple zero around 7.15pm to find the nursery well alight.

On entering the property they found the German Shepard and evacuated it to safety.

More than 20 firefighters attacked the blaze and managed to bring it under control in less than half an hour.

Victoria Police were called to the scene and assisted with traffic management.

The rescued dog did not appear to be suffering any injuries.

MFB’s specialist Fire Investigation Unit will attend the scene on Tuesday to determine the cause of the fire.
