Hobsons Bay residents, community groups, sporting clubs, businesses and organisations are invited to pitch an idea for a one-off community program, project, or initiative that Council will deliver next financial year.

Funding of up to $50,000 is available per idea to deliver ‘people-focused’ programs or initiatives.

A total of $600,000 will be available as part of the Community Pitch program, subject to final budget allocation, with programs, projects, or initiatives to be funded from each ward.

After initial assessment by Council staff against the selection criteria, the community will then be invited to vote for their favourite Community Pitch early next year.

The Council will be looking for a broad range of ideas that align to the recently adopted Council Plan 2021-25 and demonstrate a strong community benefit.

Hobsons Bay mayor Jonathon Marsden said the council invites the Hobsons Bay community to get involved early in planning for the upcoming proposed budget each year and put forward ideas to be funded and delivered by Council.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic greatly impacting our community, this year we are focusing on ideas that put people in the spotlight,” he said.

“We want to see ideas that have a strong community benefit and speak to the strategies and priorities of the recently adopted Council Plan 2021-25.”

This could be an idea that encourages and promotes an inclusive, equitable and healthy community, a project that fosters a sustainable way of living or an initiative to ensure Hobsons Bay is a vibrant place to live, work, invest, play and visit.

“Each idea that is received will be assessed by Council staff against selection criteria and excitingly, the community will be able to vote on their favourite idea for their ward,” Cr Marsden said.

“We’re looking forward to receiving exciting, community-generated ideas that can make a difference to our community.”

Three information sessions will be held:

– Thursday 11 November, 6pm to 7.30pm

– Tuesday 16 November, noon to 1pm

– Thursday 18 November, 6pm to 7.30pm
