A comprehensive plan for the future of Williamstown’s maritime precinct is on the way.

The state government is starting plans to prepare the necessary technical reports to help guide investment priorities and provide a sustainable approach to meeting economic, tourism and community needs.

The Williamstown Local Port Area Plan will also help to safeguard the area’s maritime heritage and tourism potential and direct future investment where it is most needed.

This will include ways to address issues and challenges in the area, including access channel sedimentation, the condition of the Seaworks piers and jetties and provision for large vessels.

Parks Victoria will soon seek stakeholder consultation and community ideas on the current facilities and future activities.

The plan will builds on the recently finalised Williamstown Maritime Precinct Framework and Williamstown Wave Surge Study, two complementary reports which provide a clear direction on improving public spaces and enhancing the local economy with a focus on the area’s maritime history.

Parks Victoria will prepare the plan in partnership with the Department of Transport and will invite Hobsons Bay council to be part of the project’s reference group.

The draft plan is scheduled to be presented early next year, while consultation will take place during mid-2023 and the final report presented to the state government in late 2023.
