Plastic Free July initiatives

Hobsons Bay council are encouraging locals to abandon plastic this July.

Hobsons Bay council is celebrating Plastic Free July with a series of free events to help reduce plastic waste across the municipality.

Council will be hosting an eco product refills and low-waste living presentation on Wednesday, July 19, at Altona Library.

There are two sessions, for the first one visitors can BYO a bottle for a free product refill and the second is an interactive presentation.

On Saturday, July 22, council is hosting beeswax wrap workshops and eco-product refills at the Woods Street Arts Space in Laverton.

Towards the end of the month on Sunday, July 30, council will celebrate National Tree Day at Altona Coastal Park in Seaholme, for a planting day with food, coffee and a shuttle bus for transport.

Council has also shared a number of other ways locals can contribute to Plastic Free July if they cannot attend the sessions.

By joining the local reuse rewards loyalty program, locals can BYO a reusable cup and be rewarded with a coffee only with participating cafes.

Council shared an action picker so residents can browse popular ideas on reducing plastic.

Locals can also subscribe to council’s free living green e-newsletter for giveaways, events, news and more.
