Police charge Maidstone man with string of offences

The Victoria Police air wing unit provided assistance to the Maribyrnong Vehicle Crime Unit in arresting a Maidstone man after he was seen driving an allegedly stolen car.

According to a Victoria Police statement, the man was wanted for alleged driving, theft and criminal damage offences and breaching a court order and was seen driving an allegedly stolen Hyundai i30 in Maidstone at about 11am on Wednesday, May 11.

Police first sighted the vehicle on Ballarat Road in Maidstone and the air wing unit then followed a number of nearby suburbs, including Keilor East, Keilor Park and Avondale Heights.

Police then deployed stop sticks on Keilor Park Drive in Keilor East before the vehicle came to a stop on Bolton Court in Avondale Heights at around 11.30am.

Police alleged that the male driver and sole occupant of the car fled on foot but was quickly arrested metres away from the vehicle.

According to a further statement, police have charged a 34-year-old Maidstone man with handling stolen goods, committing an indictable offence whilst on bail, failing to stop on police direction, driving when disqualified, theft, theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

Police presented the man directly to Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 11 May.
