Police seek witnesses to Altona North arson

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives are seeking public assistance after a vehicle was set on fire in Altona North in August.

The incident occurred on McIntosh Road about 11.45pm on August 8.

Investigators have been told a person arrived in a dark coloured sports car, believed to be a Ford Focus Sport, which had distinctive rims.

In CCTV footage released by police, the person is seen driving up to another car and pouring what is believed to have been accelerant on the vehicle before setting it alight while it was parked in a residential driveway.

The person then got into the front passenger seat of the Ford and took off north-east along McIntosh Road toward The Circle.

Detective Senior Constable Brendan Bennett said police are working closely with the victim.

“As you can imagine this is a traumatising experience for anyone that would be involved. Obviously we are working closely with her and finding her the support that she needs.”

Detective Senior Constable Bennett said that investigators have spoken to neighbours as part of the investigation and have reassured the community that it is an isolated incident.

Due to the quality of the footage, Detective Senior Constable Bennett said that unfortunately there is no physical characterises to help identify the person.
