Fire Rescue Victoria [FRV] responded to a number of calls about flames issuing from a house in Altona North about 8pm on Wednesday, June 22.

A total of 30 firefighters across 10 appliances attended the scene, with firefighters advising the roof and rear of the one-storey and three-bedroom house on Edward Avenue was fully involved in fire.

FRV issued a Community Advice warning due to the large amount of smoke in the area.

Firefighters declared the fire under control by about 8.30pm, with firefighters continuing to extinguish hot spots over the next few hours.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said investigations were continuing into the cause of the blaze.

“The property was empty at the time and nobody was injured,” the spokesperson said.

“The exact cause of the fire is being investigated, however at this stage it is being treated as suspicious.”
