People have been warned not to swim at Williamstown beach after an area of orange discoloured water was reported on Wednesday night.
The polluted water is in front of the Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club.
The EPA has issued an alert for people not to make contact with the water until further notice.
The EPA is investigating.
