Postie assaulted and robbed in West Footscray

Police are hunting for a man alleged to have assaulted a postal worker in West Footscray on Thursday.

The man is believed to have approached the victim on Soudan Street just before 1.20pm and asked for directions before assaulting him.

The man fled the scene with a number of items including the victim’s phone.

The postal worker, who is aged in his 50s, sustained facial injuries.

Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated the victim at the scene.

An Australian Post spokesman said the crime was immediately reported to police and Australia Post is offering support to the postie.

“Australia Post staff receive regular training and reminders on the importance being safe out in the community and to stay alert for any suspicious or threatening behaviour,” he said.

“We are working closely with police in assisting with their investigation. We encourage anyone with information about this crime to contact police.”
