More than 6000 Jemena electricity customers remain without power more than 24 hours after widespread outages caused by Friday morning’s wild weather.
Almost 45,000 Jemena customers lost power after high winds caused havoc across the network, including close to 7000 in Newport and Williamstown and about 8000 around Footscray, Maidstone, Maribyrnong and Braybrook.
While many homes and businesses have had power returned, pockets of Footscray, West Footscray and Williamstown remain affected on Saturday afternoon.
“Due to a major incident impacting our network, we’re currently experiencing high call volumes and long delays in our contact centre,” Jemena said in a statement.
“We apologise and are working to restore electricity supply to customers as quickly as possible.”
Affected customers are advised to switch off appliances like computers and televisions.
