PTV fare cap

Victorians from across Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay can now enjoy cheaper public transport, with a regional fare cap now in place.

Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll joined passengers travelling from Southern Cross Station to Woodend Station to celebrate the reduced fare on Friday, March 31.

The cost to travel daily on the regional network will now match the metropolitan fares of $9.20 for a full fare or $4.60 for a concession.

Mr Carroll said the fare cap would make public transport more affordable for Victorians across the state.

“We’re delivering for all Victorians [by] making public transport more affordable and accessible to passengers in every corner of our state,” Mr Carroll said.

“The regional fare cap will transform the way Victorians travel and will also provide a huge benefit to regional tourism and businesses.”

The daily fares on weekends or public holidays are also capped at $6.70 for a full fare and $3.35 for concession.

The cap will also apply to interstate travel within 60 kilometres of the Victorian border, as well as in Albury, Merimbula, Deniliquin and Mt Gambier.
