Williamstown’s Patricia ’Pat’ Daw has been awarded an OAM for service to badminton.

Western Suburbs Badminton Association honorary president since 1989, Ms Daw has served in numerous roles with Badminton Victoria and was a tournament volunteer with Badminton Australia.

She has been the Association’s event director for national junior badminton carnivals since 1989 and was volunteer manager of Altona Badminton Centre from 1993-2000.

Ms Daw became a member of the then Victorian Badminton Association Council in the 1960s and is a life member of Badminton Victoria, serving as secretary since 2013.

“It was a family thing,“ Ms Daw said.

“My parents were both involved for many years.

“When the opportunity came up, I was asked to be president.

“I have devoted the next 30 years of my life to it.“

Ms Daw said it was exciting to be named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

“It’s pretty exciting isn’t it,“ she said.

“My family will be more excited than I am.“
