The world’s best young talent in Cadet-class boat racing will be converging in Williamstown for a world-class racing regatta.

The Royal Yacht Club of Victoria [RYCV] is hosting the International Cadet Class 2022 Australian Championship from Monday, December 19 until Saturday, December 24 and the International Cadet Class World Championship from Boxing Day until Monday, January 2.

RYCV general manager Michael Neumann said the club is excited to host the events in Williamstown after they were initially postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“We have over 60 competitors entered from Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Poland and Belgium, with over 65 volunteers helping run the event every day,” he said.

“The Melbourne weather really put on a beautiful day for the opening of the nationals and we are looking forward to the opening ceremony on Boxing Day in the Commonwealth Reserve and we welcome everyone to come and enjoy the event from 4pm.

“We’d also like to thank the Hobsons Bay City Council for their support through their Make it Happen grant program.”
