Five councils in the west are coming together to launch the All Abilities Regional Inclusion Week, with the week kicking off with a sports day at the Altona Sports Centre.

Sporting associations and providers in the west will come together for a week of inclusive activities for all abilities and ages from Sunday November 28 to December 5.

The Regional All Abilities Inclusion Sports Day at the Altona sports centre will take place on Sunday November 28 from 2pm to 3.30pm.

People of all abilities and all ages are encouraged to come and try a range of sports including tenpin bowling, tennis, cricket, badminton and soccer.

The Brotherhood of St Laurence will be attending to help participants incorporate sport activities into their NDIS plans.

The inclusive sports week is a partnership between Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham councils, along with local sporting clubs and associations in the western suburbs.

The week celebrates International Day of People with a Disability which is held annually on December 3.

Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Peter Hemphill said that there are many sports for all abilities to try in a supportive and welcoming environment such as the Altona Sports Centre.

“We hope the day makes it as easy as possible to find the right sport for you,” he said.

“I’m proud that the west is on the front foot of providing fair opportunities for everyone to access services. International Day of People with a Disability is also an opportunity to celebrate diversity within our communities and how we can help grow a more inclusive Australia.”
