A number of local collection points are open for the donation of new and leftover disposable nappies as part of The Nappy Collective’s July campaign.
Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay collection points include Pelvic Health Melbourne in Altona North, ANZ Highpoint in Maribyrnong and the Saltwater Child Care Centre in Footscray.
Altona North volunteer Kylie Conway said every business is welcome to apply to become a collection point.
“More than ever, with high prices, the nappies are going very quickly,” she said.
“We’re desperate for more collection points.”
The not-for-profit organisation is aiming to provide one million nappies to children and families experiencing ‘nappy stress’ across Australia.
The Nappy Collective chief executive Sarah Witty said the recent flooding in New South Wales are continuing to drive up national demand for nappies.
“Some 280,000 children across Australia each year don’t have their nappy changed as often as they need to, which leads to skin irritation, urinary infections, and emotional distress,” she said.
