A retired Altona North man has won $1 million in Wednesday night’s Lotto draw.
The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, bought his winning System 7 ticket from Circle News & Lotto at The Circle shopping centre in Altona North.
He thought it was a joke when he was notified of his win by phone on Thursday morning.
“I never even thought about what I’d do if I won $1 million because I guess I never really thought the day would come but it has,” he said.
“I’m always more than happy with little wins since I usually have no luck at all but I guess I can’t say that anymore.
“With some of my million-dollar windfall I’ll take a holiday for sure and I think Europe would be a great place to start.”
The man said he was a regular at Circle News & Lotto and always played his recorded favourite numbers in a System 7 entry.
The winning numbers were 12, 34, 29, 42, 23 and 15, with supplementaries 31 and 3.
Last August, the newsagency sold another winning division one ticket to a local man, who was among 17 winners to claim more than $240,000 each from a $4 million prize pool.
The man waited nearly two weeks before claiming his cash, which he said he would use to build an investment property.
In December, 2012, the newsagency sold a winning division one ticket to a local man which paid out the entire $4 million in time for Christmas.
